DOFDAHR Concludes Grassroots Strategic Planning Workshop in Uganda

Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) has successfully concluded a specialized Grassroots Strategic Planning Workshop, with the participation of DOFDAHR office managers alongside representatives from youth-led, national, and community-based organizations. The workshop was implemented with the support from Norwegian People’s Aid, reinforcing a partnership-driven and collective learning approach that promotes inclusive participation in shaping community-rooted visions and strategies. The workshop was held at Jinja Resort in Kampala, Uganda, from 28 December 2025 to 2 January 2026, and focused on strengthening community-centered planning skills and enhancing institutional capacity, contributing to more effective and responsive humanitarian and development programming. In addition, the workshop integrated psychosocial support and recreational activities, underscoring the importance of staff well-being and resilience as a foundation for sustainable humanitarian engagement. Reaffirming its ongoing community-centered role and commitment to inclusive and meaningful participation, DOFDAHR plans to continue this capacity-strengthening journey by organizing a follow-up workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E). This upcoming initiative aims to enhance program quality, strengthen accountability, and ensure deeper and more sustainable humanitarian and development impact within affected communities.

DOFDAHR Strengthens Institutional Capacity Through Strategic Planning Workshop in Uganda

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional performance and build staff capacities, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) organized a specialized workshop on Grassroots Strategic Planning in Kampala, Uganda. The five-day workshop was held from 28 December 2025 to 2 January 2026, bringing together DOFDAHR office managers alongside representatives of active national youth organizations. The training was facilitated by expert Dr. Mahjoub Salim and focused on practical tools and participatory approaches to strategic planning that respond effectively to community needs and priorities. This initiative comes within DOFDAHR’s broader strategy to invest in human capital, enhance institutional capacities, strengthen coordination among national organizations, and achieve more sustainable humanitarian and development impact in the communities it serves.

DOFDAHR Conducts a Workshop on the Situation of Refugee Civil Society in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen civil society engagement and support peacebuilding processes, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR), in partnership with the Darfur Civil Society Platform, conducted a dialogue workshop in Biyali, Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda, on 22 December 2025. The workshop brought together 40 participants, including community leaders, youth activists, and civil society representatives (16 women and 24 men), to discuss the situation of refugee-led civil society organizations, with a particular focus on women’s participation in peacebuilding and community decision-making. Key discussion topics included legal and organizational challenges facing refugee civil society organizations, the role of civil society in providing psychosocial support, and barriers and opportunities for women’s meaningful participation in peace processes. The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including strengthening coordination among civil society actors, building the capacity of women leaders, supporting youth- and women-led initiatives, expanding psychosocial support programs, and promoting education and vocational training as tools for empowerment and social stability. DOFDAHR reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to support refugee civil society, promote inclusive participation, and contribute to sustainable peace and social cohesion within refugee communities.

DOFDAHR Conducts Peacebuilding and Civic Education Workshops to Empower Sudanese Youth

As part of its efforts to promote sustainable peace and strengthen civic awareness, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) implemented a series of training workshops under the Comprehensive Peacebuilding and Civic Education in Sudan project, targeting youth and young leaders from inside and outside Sudan. The activities included the first workshop, “Civic Education – Towards Active Citizenship,” held on 20 December 2024, with the participation of 45 young women and men from different states and regions. The workshop addressed key concepts of citizenship, community dialogue, civic participation, and the role of youth in contributing to the building of a democratic society based on rights and responsibilities. The second workshop, “Dealing with the Past to Build the Future,” was conducted on 22 December 2024 and brought together 75 young leaders from within Sudan and the diaspora. Discussions focused on community reconciliation, transitional justice, conflict transformation, and the development of shared narratives that strengthen social cohesion and open pathways toward a peaceful future. These activities reflect the conviction that peace cannot be achieved through slogans alone, but through learning, dialogue, and a deep understanding of the root causes of conflict. The active engagement and positive interaction of participants demonstrated the readiness of Sudanese youth to play a central role in leading peacebuilding efforts and driving positive change. The Comprehensive Peacebuilding and Civic Education in Sudan project aims to empower Sudanese youth to become active agents in promoting peace and social cohesion through innovative dialogue initiatives and digital platforms that foster discussions on peace, conflict resolution, and social justice, with a strong focus on the inclusion of marginalized groups and ensuring diverse and meaningful participation.

DOFDAHR Implements Food Basket Distribution Project in Dar El Salam, North Darfur

As part of its emergency humanitarian response to support displaced populations and conflict-affected communities in Darfur, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) has launched a Food Basket Distribution Project in Dar El Salam Town, North Darfur State, with the support of Norwegian People’s Aid. The distribution activities commenced on 22 December 2025, targeting 500 of the most vulnerable households, based on humanitarian targeting criteria that prioritize families facing acute needs and heightened vulnerability due to the ongoing conflict. Each household received a food basket containing essential items designed to meet immediate daily needs, including 6 kg of dura (sorghum), 2 kg of sugar, 1 kg of salt, and 1.22 liters of cooking oil, contributing to minimum food security during the emergency phase. This intervention is implemented amid the continued deterioration of humanitarian conditions and livelihoods in North Darfur, aiming to alleviate suffering, strengthen household resilience, and ensure timely access to life-saving assistance for the most affected communities.

DOFDAHR Strengthens Cholera Prevention Efforts Across North and South Darfur

As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Host Communities to Prevent the Spread of Cholera, support from IOM Sudan, Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continues to implement integrated health and awareness activities in both Tawilla locality, North Darfur State, and South Nyala locality, South Darfur State, targeting IDP camps and host communities. In Tawilla locality, DOFDAHR conducted field activities from 15 to 17 December in Daba Naira and Shakshako areas, including a Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) exercise targeting 100 households out of 500 beneficiaries who received Dignity and Hygiene Kits. The activities also included the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, installation of health awareness banners, and placement of cholera prevention posters in markets, health facilities, and schools. Meanwhile, in South Nyala locality, the team launched similar activities, initiating the PDM exercise, with 51 households having completed the questionnaire so far out of 100 targeted households, with completion planned in the coming days. In parallel, IEC materials are being distributed and cholera prevention posters placed in key public gathering areas, including markets, hospitals, health centers, and schools. These interventions underscore DOFDAHR’s commitment to protecting public health, strengthening community awareness, and reducing the risk of cholera outbreaks among displaced populations and host communities across Darfur.

DOFDAHR Announces Open Registration for “The Knowledge Nexus” Youth Empowerment Project

Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) announces the opening of registration for participation in The Knowledge Nexus, a digital and community-based project aimed at empowering Sudanese youth in conflict-affected areas and marginalized communities, including Darfur, Kordofan, Blue Nile, and displaced communities in Uganda. The project focuses on strengthening youth capacities in peacebuilding, transitional justice, civic education, and community dialogue and psychosocial resilience, contributing to social cohesion and inclusive peacebuilding efforts. DOFDAHR and IOM Sudan Provide 1,000 Hygiene and Water Kits to Support Cholera-Affected Communities in Darfur

Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM Sudan) and with support from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), has implemented a humanitarian intervention targeting communities affected by the cholera outbreak in South and North Darfur. This initiative is part of an emergency response project aimed at curbing the spread of the disease by providing life-saving assistance that addresses the urgent needs of women and girls in displacement settings where essential services are limited. As part of the project, DOFDAHR completed the preparation and distribution of 1,000 hygiene and water kits, designed to promote public health and protect women and girls from waterborne diseases. A total of 500 kits were distributed to displaced families in Nyala South locality in South Darfur, while another 500 kits were delivered to affected communities in Tawila locality in North Darfur, specifically in Daba Naira and Shakshako. This intervention comes in direct response to the harsh humanitarian conditions faced by families in the affected areas, where communities continue to struggle with limited access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services, alongside heightened risks of disease transmission. DOFDAHR field teams prioritized reaching the most vulnerable groups to strengthen their resilience and enable them to adopt effective preventive measures to reduce the spread of cholera.Earlier in the project, field teams also conducted community awareness campaigns to promote hygiene practices and public health, ensuring that women and girls are empowered to protect their families. DOFDAHR Delivers Essential Hygiene Kits to Vulnerable Families in South Darfur

The kits included essential personal care and women’s health items designed to support women and girls and reduce the risk of cholera transmission, particularly amid the severe shortages in water and sanitation services in affected areas. This initiative forms part of DOFDAHR’s ongoing efforts to support vulnerable families, enhance community resilience, protect women and girls, raise health awareness, and contribute to preventing the escalation of epidemics while improving overall public health in the affected communities.

DOFDAHR Distributes Hygiene and Dignity Kits to Affected Families and Communities in Tawila, North Darfur

As part of the emergency assistance project for displaced families and host communities to curb the spread of cholera in Tawila locality, North Darfur — in partnership with IOM Sudan and with support from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) — the organization began distributing hygiene and dignity kits on 28 November 2025 to the most affected families in Daba Naira and Shakshako sites. A total of 63 displaced families received essential kits, providing women and girls with basic items for personal hygiene and menstrual health. This support aims to reduce health risks linked to cholera amid severe shortages in water and sanitation services within displacement sites. These interventions reflect the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting affected families, strengthening their resilience amid the deteriorating humanitarian and health conditions in conflict-affected areas, and contributing to the prevention of further outbreaks. The efforts also prioritize the protection of women and girls and promote health awareness within the affected communities to tackle current epidemic risks.
