Implications of the War in Sudan – Political, Economic, Social and Human Rights Situations. This report is published by YOUTH CITIZENS OBSERVERS NETWORK. (YCON Sudan). Darfur Organization For Development & Human Resources was one of the organization’s that participated in writing this report. Following the outbreak of the current war, the YCON decided to observe various violations that occurred during the war and their resulting effects. This includes documenting migration, displacement, and human rights issues and contributing to various efforts aimed at ending the war. The network has observers deployed in all 18 states of Sudan who work in the field to observe and report, sending their preliminary reports as the basis for the network’s various reports and activities. This report serves as a summary of the observers’ reports from all states during the past month, reflecting the most important developments, the political, economic, and social implications of the war, and the situation of displaced persons, human rights, and civilian protection. The repercussions of the war are increasing in all aspects of Sudanese life, with human rights violations, security restrictions, and instances of polarization growing as the war continues, without reaching agreements leading to a ceasefire and allowing humanitarian aid to enter conflict areas. In this report, various human rights violations and social implications have been documented, including cases of polarization and social conflicts fueled by the main conflict parties, which threaten peace in multiple states. The scope of the war that started on April 15, 2023, increases daily. Civilian casualties are rising, whether through killing, displacement, or systematic impoverishment through looting and stealing citizens’ properties. This report attempts to reflect the latest military and security developments that have cast their shadows on the political, social, and economic levels. This report is based on the consequences of the fall of Gezira State and its capital, Madani. The fall of Madani was a pivotal point that has influenced the course of other events and has had repercussions on citizens, including massive displacement and refuge. The fall of Madani has also instilled fear in the residents of states that were not previously within the war zone.  Download and read the full report:

Seven months into the war in Sudan, the Youth Citizen Observer Network continues to investigate and document violations by the primary and secondary parties in the conflict, despite enormous challenges faced by our members. The Network’s observers monitored the truces which were never respected. The monitoring team also followed up on the political, economic, health, and refugee conditions on all Sudanese lands despite the field and political challenges facing all Network members. Over half a year into the war, YCON surveyed some 900 Sudanese youth active in political and public life. SAID- CAN YOU SAY WHERE? WAS It ACROSS THE COUNTRY. Sudanese youth, who make up X percent of the country’s population, are predominant in Resistance Committees (RCs) and Emergency Response Rooms, set up by RCs after the war erupted in April 2023. Since then, Emergency Response Rooms remain the only support system for millions of Sudanese inside and outside conflict areas. Yet Resistance Committees, who were sidelined during the transitional period before the current conflict, have remained largely outside political efforts to end the war. In other words, youth, a key segment of Sudan’s population, remain politically marginalized. YCON’s poll evaluates the political views of Sudanese youth vis-à-vis the role of the international community and the Sudanese civilian politicians involved in the many competing initiatives to end the conflict. The findings reveal that youth in Sudan have little confidence in both the international community and Sudanese civilian politicians in ending the conflict. These findings provide an urgent wake-up call to the international community and Sudan’s civilian politicians that existing approaches to end the war and get Sudan back on track toward a democratic transition must be more transparent and inclusive. An overwhelming majority of youth polled said they have no confidence in Sudanese civilian politicians involved in so-called initiatives to end the war. For the sixth consecutive month, the cycle of conflict and clashes continued in Khartoum state, where battles escalated during September over the general command of the Sudanese Army Forces (SAF). The battles continued with intensity in areas involving armored units and engineers. Violent clashes were also witnessed in the states of North Kordofan and South Darfur. In the city of Al-Obied, battles persisted for two days, resulting in casualties among civilians. Additionally, confrontations occurred in the area of Wad Ashana, which is part of the Umm Ruwaba locality in North Kordofan, and in Nyala city in South Darfur, which witnessed exchanges of fire between the SAF and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The ongoing war and the increasing intensity of the conflict have had significant political repercussions within Sudan and among external actors interested in Sudanese affairs and seeking to find a solution to end the war. The Youth Citizen Observer Network (YCON) consists of grassroots youth organizations spread across all regions of Sudan. It works to support democratic transition in Sudan and harnesses its efforts to amplify the youth’s voice and increase their influence in various political processes within Sudan, in line with the goals of the December Revolution.
