DOFDAHR Strengthens Cholera Prevention Efforts Across North and South Darfur
As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Host Communities to Prevent the Spread of Cholera, support from IOM Sudan, Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continues to implement integrated health and awareness activities in both Tawilla locality, North Darfur State, and South Nyala locality, South Darfur State, targeting IDP camps and host communities. In Tawilla locality, DOFDAHR conducted field activities from 15 to 17 December in Daba Naira and Shakshako areas, including a Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) exercise targeting 100 households out of 500 beneficiaries who received Dignity and Hygiene Kits. The activities also included the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, installation of health awareness banners, and placement of cholera prevention posters in markets, health facilities, and schools. Meanwhile, in South Nyala locality, the team launched similar activities, initiating the PDM exercise, with 51 households having completed the questionnaire so far out of 100 targeted households, with completion planned in the coming days. In parallel, IEC materials are being distributed and cholera prevention posters placed in key public gathering areas, including markets, hospitals, health centers, and schools. These interventions underscore DOFDAHR’s commitment to protecting public health, strengthening community awareness, and reducing the risk of cholera outbreaks among displaced populations and host communities across Darfur.
