DOFDAHR Conducts a Workshop on the Situation of Refugee Civil Society in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen civil society engagement and support peacebuilding processes, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR), in partnership with the Darfur Civil Society Platform, conducted a dialogue workshop in Biyali, Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda, on 22 December 2025. The workshop brought together 40 participants, including community leaders, youth activists, and civil society representatives (16 women and 24 men), to discuss the situation of refugee-led civil society organizations, with a particular focus on women’s participation in peacebuilding and community decision-making. Key discussion topics included legal and organizational challenges facing refugee civil society organizations, the role of civil society in providing psychosocial support, and barriers and opportunities for women’s meaningful participation in peace processes. The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including strengthening coordination among civil society actors, building the capacity of women leaders, supporting youth- and women-led initiatives, expanding psychosocial support programs, and promoting education and vocational training as tools for empowerment and social stability. DOFDAHR reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to support refugee civil society, promote inclusive participation, and contribute to sustainable peace and social cohesion within refugee communities.

DOFDAHR Conducts Peacebuilding and Civic Education Workshops to Empower Sudanese Youth

As part of its efforts to promote sustainable peace and strengthen civic awareness, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) implemented a series of training workshops under the Comprehensive Peacebuilding and Civic Education in Sudan project, targeting youth and young leaders from inside and outside Sudan. The activities included the first workshop, “Civic Education – Towards Active Citizenship,” held on 20 December 2024, with the participation of 45 young women and men from different states and regions. The workshop addressed key concepts of citizenship, community dialogue, civic participation, and the role of youth in contributing to the building of a democratic society based on rights and responsibilities. The second workshop, “Dealing with the Past to Build the Future,” was conducted on 22 December 2024 and brought together 75 young leaders from within Sudan and the diaspora. Discussions focused on community reconciliation, transitional justice, conflict transformation, and the development of shared narratives that strengthen social cohesion and open pathways toward a peaceful future. These activities reflect the conviction that peace cannot be achieved through slogans alone, but through learning, dialogue, and a deep understanding of the root causes of conflict. The active engagement and positive interaction of participants demonstrated the readiness of Sudanese youth to play a central role in leading peacebuilding efforts and driving positive change. The Comprehensive Peacebuilding and Civic Education in Sudan project aims to empower Sudanese youth to become active agents in promoting peace and social cohesion through innovative dialogue initiatives and digital platforms that foster discussions on peace, conflict resolution, and social justice, with a strong focus on the inclusion of marginalized groups and ensuring diverse and meaningful participation.

DOFDAHR Strengthens Cholera Prevention Efforts Across North and South Darfur

As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and Host Communities to Prevent the Spread of Cholera, support from IOM Sudan, Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continues to implement integrated health and awareness activities in both Tawilla locality, North Darfur State, and South Nyala locality, South Darfur State, targeting IDP camps and host communities. In Tawilla locality, DOFDAHR conducted field activities from 15 to 17 December in Daba Naira and Shakshako areas, including a Post-Distribution Monitoring (PDM) exercise targeting 100 households out of 500 beneficiaries who received Dignity and Hygiene Kits. The activities also included the distribution of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials, installation of health awareness banners, and placement of cholera prevention posters in markets, health facilities, and schools. Meanwhile, in South Nyala locality, the team launched similar activities, initiating the PDM exercise, with 51 households having completed the questionnaire so far out of 100 targeted households, with completion planned in the coming days. In parallel, IEC materials are being distributed and cholera prevention posters placed in key public gathering areas, including markets, hospitals, health centers, and schools. These interventions underscore DOFDAHR’s commitment to protecting public health, strengthening community awareness, and reducing the risk of cholera outbreaks among displaced populations and host communities across Darfur.

Mobile Awareness Campaign in Tawila – North Darfur

As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for Displaced Persons and Host Communities to Combat Cholera and Promote Public Health and Hygiene, and with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) conducted a mobile awareness campaign on 11 November 2025 in several areas of Tawila, North Darfur. Through the mobile microphone activity, health messages were repeatedly broadcast in communities such as Um Jangour, Shakshako, and Ab Jangour New IDP site, reaching a total of 2,370 people (1,120 males and 1,250 females). The campaign focused on promoting handwashing, safe water use, and hygiene practices to prevent cholera and other waterborne diseases.

DOFDAHR Expands Health Awareness Efforts in Nyala to Combat Cholera

As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for Displaced Persons and Host Communities to Combat Cholera and Promote Public Health and Hygiene, and with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM Sudan), the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continues to implement extensive field activities in Nyala, South Darfur. The initiative aims to strengthen health awareness and improve hygiene practices among local communities affected by the cholera outbreak.Between 2 and 5 November 2025, DOFDAHR’s field teams carried out a series of community-based awareness activities in different neighborhoods of Nyala. These included dialogue sessions in Al-Wali neighborhoods (Blocks 25 and 32), benefiting over 350 participants, including women, men, and children. An additional awareness session held at the West Al-Idhaa Schools Complex reached approximately 480 students and women.To further engage the community, a health-themed theatre performance was organized at Al-Miraj Basic School Complex, attracting around 1,250 attendees. The play delivered key messages on cholera prevention, personal hygiene, and community health protection. Complementing these activities, DOFDAHR’s teams conducted mobile loudspeaker campaigns across Al-Waha, Al-Jeer South, and Al-Jeer North neighborhoods, broadcasting more than 100 live and recorded health messages. The campaign reached an estimated 2,400 residents, delivering essential information on hygiene and disease prevention through major community points such as schools, markets, and public gathering areas. These efforts reflect DOFDAHR’s ongoing commitment to promoting public health, enhancing hygiene awareness, and supporting the resilience of communities affected by displacement and health challenges in South Darfur, in close partnership with IOM Sudan.

DOFDAHR Continues Cholera Awareness Efforts in South Darfur

As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for IDPs and Host Communities aimed at combating cholera and promoting health and hygiene awareness, and with the support of IOM Sudan, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continues its field efforts in South Darfur State. In October 2025, DOFDAHR’s field teams conducted home visits in Nyala city, reaching 30 households and delivering vital awareness messages on personal hygiene and cholera prevention to more than 199 beneficiaries. The following day, an interactive theater performance was held at Abdullah Al-Ta’aishi Basic School in Nyala South locality, engaging 264 students, teachers, and community members in an entertaining and educational session on cholera prevention.

Community Engagement and Health Promotion Activities Continue in North Darfur

As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for IDPs and Host Communities to Combat Cholera and Promote Public Health, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continued its awareness activities in Shokshoko, Tawila locality, with the support from IOM Sudan. Over the two days, 27–28 October 2025, DOFDAHR’s field teams carried out several outreach activities, including:Home visits reaching 60 households with a total of 362 individuals, benefiting 267 people directly. Two community dialogue sessions targeting women aged 25–50 years, with 34 participants. Additionally, the team conducted a mobile microphone campaign across Dabba Naira and Shokshoko, spreading key health messages on cholera prevention, personal hygiene, and water safety

Cholera Awareness Activities – Tawila, North Darfur

Awareness and Interactive Theatre Activities to Combat Cholera in North Darfur – Tawila Locality

As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for IDPs and Host Communities, and with the support fom IOMSudan, Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continued its awareness activities in Tawila locality, North Darfur, inOctober 2025. The activities included home visits to 30 households (172 individuals), reaching 129 direct beneficiaries. A community discussion session targeting 16 women aged between 25 and 30 was also conducted in Shokshoko area. Additionally, an awareness event was held at Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Mosque and Khalwa, benefiting over 480 participants. An interactive theatre performance was organized as part of the campaign to raise health awareness on cholera prevention, combining education and entertainment to deliver vital health messages in an engaging and effective way.
