Fifth Civil Society Meeting in Kampala

Within the framework of the project to enhance the capabilities of Sudanese in the diaspora to support peace efforts and post-war mechanisms, the Darfur Development and Human Resources Organization, in cooperation with Binaa for Democracy & Development and with support from USAID Sudan, organized the fifth civil society meeting on Monday, January 20, 2025, in Kampala, Uganda. The session focused on the book “From Dictatorship to Democracy” by the American writer Gene Sharp, with the participation of 23 young men and women. The attendees discussed the main ideas of the book, focusing on strategies for peaceful change and principles of nonviolent struggle, aiming to enhance the roles of youth in processes of justice, transitional justice, and national reconciliation. This session is part of a series of activities aimed at empowering youth, providing them with critical thinking tools, and enhancing their effective contribution to building a sustainable future for post-war Sudan. Empowering Sudanese Diaspora: Launch of the Civic Education Network in Uganda

Continuing the success story achieved by the civic education training course in Kampala, organized by the Darfur Development and Human Resources Organization with support from USAID Sudan, as part of the project to enhance the capabilities of Sudanese in the diaspora and post-war mechanisms, the elected executive committee of the Civic Education Network Uganda met. This network represents a real addition to the civic education project in Sudan. The Darfur Organization will work hand in hand with these active youth to provide all that can empower and support them.

Empowering Youth: Civic Education Network Formed in Uganda

Continuing the Success Story Achieved by the Graduates of the Civic Education Course in Kampala, organized by the Darfur Development and Human Resources Organization with support from USAID Sudan last month. Today, 22 young men and women gathered at the organization’s office in Uganda, where the basic system for the Civic Education Network in Uganda was approved, and eight people were elected as the executive committee for the network. The meeting was marked by a spirit of cooperation and proper democratic practice.

Discussion Session on “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” in Kampala: Empowering Sudanese Youth for Transitional Justice

Within the activities of the project to enhance the capabilities of Sudanese in the diaspora to support peace efforts and post-war mechanisms, the Darfur Development and Human Resources Organization, in cooperation with Binaa for Democracy & Development and with support from USAID Sudan, organized the third discussion session in Kampala, Uganda. The session revolved around the book “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” by the Brazilian writer Paulo Freire. Fifteen young men and women participated, discussing how education can be a tool for liberation and building critical awareness that strengthens the role of youth in enhancing transitional justice and national reconciliation processes. This session is part of a series of activities aimed at empowering youth, providing them with critical thinking tools, and enhancing their role in building a sustainable future for post-war Sudan. North Darfur – El Fasher

With support from Norwegian People’s Aid, the Darfur Development and Human Resources Organization today distributed the first batch of food baskets to 60 displaced families at the Al-Salam Secondary School for Girls shelter in El Fasher. These families, who fled their homes, are in dire need of water, food, and clothing. The program will continue in various shelters.

A Success Story: Birth of an Initiative for Change

After attending a civic education workshop in Kampala, a group of young people who trained for seven days in civic education gathered to establish the nucleus of a new body dedicated to civic education in Kampala. They agreed to form a temporary committee to draft the constitution and regulations, and to organize weekly events at the organization’s headquarters. This step came in response to a reality that requires awareness and collective action to promote the values of civic education and build a more aware and peaceful community, where the dream starts with the youth and extends to the entire nation. #YouthMeetingAtOrganizationHeadquartersInKampala

Discussion Session in Kampala for Sudanese Diaspora Youth on “Education for the Future” to Enhance Justice and Reconciliation

Continuing to enhance the capacity of Sudanese in the diaspora to respond to peace efforts and strengthen post-war mechanisms, the Darfur Development and Human Resources Organization, with support from USAID Sudan, organized a discussion session in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, for 20 young men and women from Sudanese civil society organizations in the diaspora (#CSOs). The discussion centered around the book “Education for the Future” by Edgar Morin from the perspective of justice and reconciliation. These sessions focus on discussing books and applying them in contexts of justice, reconciliation, memory, forgiveness, and forgetting. Our thanks extend to Binaa for Democracy & Development for their collaboration in selecting participants and actively participating in these sessions.

Conclusion of Civic Education Activities for Sudanese Diaspora Youth in Kampala, Uganda

The conclusion of the seven-day civic education activities in the Ugandan capital, Kampala, with the participation of 40 young men and women representing 18 Sudanese states, as part of enhancing the capabilities of diaspora youth in advocacy, networking, contributing to peace efforts, and discussing post-war visions in Sudan.Participants discussed the possibility of effective cooperation among Sudanese youth in the diaspora. This program is supported by USAID Sudan and implemented by the Darfur Development and Human Resources Organization.

Capacity Building for Sudanese Diaspora: Civic Education Training in Kampala.

With the participation of 40 young men and women representing 18 Sudanese states, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources organized a Training of Trainers (TOT) on civic education in Kampala this week. Funded by USAID Sudan, the training aimed to enhance the capacity of Sudanese in the diaspora for advocating, networking, and supporting peace efforts in Sudan.
