DOFDAHR Conducts a Workshop on the Situation of Refugee Civil Society in Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda

As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen civil society engagement and support peacebuilding processes, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR), in partnership with the Darfur Civil Society Platform, conducted a dialogue workshop in Biyali, Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement, Uganda, on 22 December 2025.

The workshop brought together 40 participants, including community leaders, youth activists, and civil society representatives (16 women and 24 men), to discuss the situation of refugee-led civil society organizations, with a particular focus on women’s participation in peacebuilding and community decision-making.

Key discussion topics included legal and organizational challenges facing refugee civil society organizations, the role of civil society in providing psychosocial support, and barriers and opportunities for women’s meaningful participation in peace processes.

The workshop concluded with several key recommendations, including strengthening coordination among civil society actors, building the capacity of women leaders, supporting youth- and women-led initiatives, expanding psychosocial support programs, and promoting education and vocational training as tools for empowerment and social stability.

DOFDAHR reaffirmed its commitment to working with partners to support refugee civil society, promote inclusive participation, and contribute to sustainable peace and social cohesion within refugee communities.
