As part of its efforts to promote sustainable peace and strengthen civic awareness, the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) implemented a series of training workshops under the Comprehensive Peacebuilding and Civic Education in Sudan project, targeting youth and young leaders from inside and outside Sudan.
The activities included the first workshop, “Civic Education – Towards Active Citizenship,” held on 20 December 2024, with the participation of 45 young women and men from different states and regions. The workshop addressed key concepts of citizenship, community dialogue, civic participation, and the role of youth in contributing to the building of a democratic society based on rights and responsibilities.
The second workshop, “Dealing with the Past to Build the Future,” was conducted on 22 December 2024 and brought together 75 young leaders from within Sudan and the diaspora. Discussions focused on community reconciliation, transitional justice, conflict transformation, and the development of shared narratives that strengthen social cohesion and open pathways toward a peaceful future.
These activities reflect the conviction that peace cannot be achieved through slogans alone, but through learning, dialogue, and a deep understanding of the root causes of conflict. The active engagement and positive interaction of participants demonstrated the readiness of Sudanese youth to play a central role in leading peacebuilding efforts and driving positive change.
The Comprehensive Peacebuilding and Civic Education in Sudan project aims to empower Sudanese youth to become active agents in promoting peace and social cohesion through innovative dialogue initiatives and digital platforms that foster discussions on peace, conflict resolution, and social justice, with a strong focus on the inclusion of marginalized groups and ensuring diverse and meaningful participation.
