Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR), in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM Sudan) and with support from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF), has implemented a humanitarian intervention targeting communities affected by the cholera outbreak in South and North Darfur.
This initiative is part of an emergency response project aimed at curbing the spread of the disease by providing life-saving assistance that addresses the urgent needs of women and girls in displacement settings where essential services are limited.
As part of the project, DOFDAHR completed the preparation and distribution of 1,000 hygiene and water kits, designed to promote public health and protect women and girls from waterborne diseases. A total of 500 kits were distributed to displaced families in Nyala South locality in South Darfur, while another 500 kits were delivered to affected communities in Tawila locality in North Darfur, specifically in Daba Naira and Shakshako.
This intervention comes in direct response to the harsh humanitarian conditions faced by families in the affected areas, where communities continue to struggle with limited access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services, alongside heightened risks of disease transmission.
DOFDAHR field teams prioritized reaching the most vulnerable groups to strengthen their resilience and enable them to adopt effective preventive measures to reduce the spread of cholera.Earlier in the project, field teams also conducted community awareness campaigns to promote hygiene practices and public health, ensuring that women and girls are empowered to protect their families.
These efforts reflect DOFDAHR’s ongoing commitment to delivering fast and effective humanitarian responses that support affected communities and enhance their ability to cope with crises
