As part of the Emergency Assistance Project for Displaced Persons and Host Communities to Combat Cholera and Promote Public Health and Hygiene, and with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM Sudan), the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources (DOFDAHR) continues to implement extensive field activities in Nyala, South Darfur.
The initiative aims to strengthen health awareness and improve hygiene practices among local communities affected by the cholera outbreak.Between 2 and 5 November 2025, DOFDAHR’s field teams carried out a series of community-based awareness activities in different neighborhoods of Nyala.
These included dialogue sessions in Al-Wali neighborhoods (Blocks 25 and 32), benefiting over 350 participants, including women, men, and children. An additional awareness session held at the West Al-Idhaa Schools Complex reached approximately 480 students and women. To further engage the community, a health-themed theatre performance was organized at Al-Miraj Basic School Complex, attracting around 1,250 attendees. The play delivered key messages on cholera prevention, personal hygiene, and community health protection.
Complementing these activities, DOFDAHR’s teams conducted mobile loudspeaker campaigns across Al-Waha, Al-Jeer South, and Al-Jeer North neighborhoods, broadcasting more than 100 live and recorded health messages. The campaign reached an estimated 2,400 residents, delivering essential information on hygiene and disease prevention through major community points such as schools, markets, and public gathering areas.
These efforts reflect DOFDAHR’s ongoing commitment to promoting public health, enhancing hygiene awareness, and supporting the resilience of communities affected by displacement and health challenges in South Darfur, in close partnership with IOM Sudan.
