Workshop on Combating Identity-Based Violence in El Fasher

Today, Wednesday, a workshop on combating identity-based violence was launched at the Darfur Organization for Development and Human Resources hall in the city of El Fasher. The workshop brought together representatives from shelters, civil society organizations, media, activists, and volunteers in the community.

Mujahid Saleh Adam, a representative of the Darfur Organization, explained that the workshop was organized based on recommendations and outcomes from a recent workshop held in Kampala, the capital of Uganda. He emphasized its importance for the community in fighting identity-based violence to maintain social cohesion and strengthen social fabric.

Dr. Imad al-Din Ahmed Salem, a lecturer at the University of El Fasher, delivered a lecture on community organization and its impact on social peace according to the functionalist theory that regulates society. The lecture also covered the steps of community organization, including research, planning, and coordination. Another lecture addressed the dangers of hate speech towards society.

The workshop concluded with several recommendations, including expanding participation to include community leaders, activists, and popular media, organizing cultural and awareness festivals in shelters and neighborhoods, transferring training workshops to localities and rural areas, and promoting a culture of peace.
